Some weeks are better than others

Some nights are better than others it is true.

Last Sunday at In Session Live I had a rough week. A few things were in play: the lighting, which gets worse each week, was terrible and I can't work out how to sort this. The second reason was the introduction of chairs which as far as I am concerned limit the dynamic on stage. I fear this is going to lead to very samey photos from now on, more so than I'm battling with each week as it is. I really hope the chair situ gets reconsidered.

One main issue from last week was the country artist Julian Jones's hat. Julian is an awesome singer songwriter and if i'd been doing anything else but photographing him I'd have thoroughly enjoyed his set and had massive respect for his giant hat too. Unfortunately as chief photographer the hat meant very poor visuals on Julians face and as a result I needed to use my flash, which I absolutely hate doing at In Session Live.

All photographers are different but for me I really like the 'no flash' approach with band photography, where the tones and colours are kept vivid and the shadows make for some very moody shots on occasion.

I will let you judge but here we have Julian Jones and The 48ks from Doncaster who gave us some stunning sunday night tunage :)

Now Where Were We.......

I have been entirely neglectful of this side of my photography blog since the summer.

Excuses, I have many but none that are very valid- well aside from the fact I have created a new website for my Wedding, baby and family photography business during this time. Check it out:

I have stayed part time working for Big Live Event but we have moved from our summer sessions in the park to the warming winter venture of In Session Live sponsored by Exposed magazine:

Since September In Session Live has been running on Sunday nights at the Forum on Division St, Sheffield.

I have been photographing the acts that play and in Nov/Dec 2012, I took on an additional role which involved booking bands. This has been very rewarding!

From now until the end of March when In Session Live finishes to make way for Yorkshire Unplugged 2013 I shall endeavor to keep you updated with the work I do for In Session Live - photos and gossip from the evenings.

Here is one of my favourite evenings which was an In Session Live Special- A Unicef Fundraiser for Christmas:
